AGE GROUPS |
|
The conditions affecting this age group are generally related to walking problems. Are they late walkers? Do they walk in an unusual way? For example on their tiptoes, feet turned in or always falling or are they not walking yet? Some mums even phone to say “My baby is shuffling around on his bottom so fast but they just won’t walk!” All of these children can be assessed to identify the potential cause of the problem and appropriate treatment programme designed. We treat children with Cerebral Palsy to maintain joint range of movement and work towards gross motor skills, for example sitting, kneeling, standing and walking.
Children with syndromes also benefit from an assessment and treatment by a paediatric physiotherapist. This promotes normal development of skills and discourages and prevents compensatory actions because, don’t forget children are very clever little people. |

A child's physiotherapist loves to have fun. Children are growing all the time and this is why we need to have a full understanding of their musculoskeletal system and the wide variety of conditions affecting children. Each child is an individual and their treatment should reflect this.
